A Website Portraiting Corregidor

The Middle Side Barracks

Middle-Side Barracks is obviously located in the tadpole-shaped island’s middle-side sector. It served as barracks of American and the Filipino soldiers who defended Corregidor in the plight of the island’s fall. According to our tour guide the barracks was apparently created during the Second World War era. Its foundations were fortified with imported products; the building was framed with steel, still strong through the years; the cement used was also imported, imported ironically from the Japanese company, Asano Cement Factory, which is currently out of business. Even though the Middle Side Barracks has experienced a lot through the process of the Second World War, the framework of the building is still in tact – that’s why you could still see the old majesty of the building before the horrific occurrence.
